Mr. and Mrs. Barry Coventry were attacked on their farm in Bergville on Sunday.
SAPS and ambulance services were called to the scene.
The husband and wife are both injured.
The dog that tried to protect them was shot dead by the farm attackers.
5 armed black men fled on foot.
