A 53-year old game farmer was killed on Saturday, November 14, 2015, in the early morning hours on his game farm in the Rooiberg area between Thabazimbi and Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) in Limpopo.

Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, provincial police spokesperson, said the farmer was asleep when an unknown number of suspects gained access to his house, overpowered and killed him.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the farmer has been strangled. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” said Ledwaba.

The suspects fled from the scene with the farmer’s safe.

Rooiberg police were informed about the incident and immediately went to the scene. A full-scale search for the suspects was launched and a 29-year-old suspect was arrested in Bela-Bela.

“The stolen safe with a firearm, ammunition and cash were soon found in a field outside the town.”

The search for the other suspects continues.

The suspect is expected to appear soon in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and possession of stolen property.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
