In the latest incident, Wimpie Oosterhuis (54) and his wife Sunette were attacked on their farm near Delmas in Leandra on February 4, 2015.

Jaco Oosterhuis (51), a farmer from Delmas in Mpumalanga stands next to his older brother’s hospital bed after he was severely beaten and shot during the farm attack Wednesday night. Seven years after Jaco himself survived a similar horrible experience.

Jaco told Maroela Media on Thursday Wimpie and Sunette arrived home about 20:00 where they were met by three or four attackers. “My brother’s garage is about 30 m from the house. He stopped his car to open the door when the attackers overpowered him, “Jaco said. “They kicked and beat him and demanded money.” They also assaulted Sunette.

The couple was tied up outside the house while the attackers ransacked the house. By Thursday family members noted that the attackers fled in the couple’s pick-up truck along with a television set, laptop and cell phones.

“My brother was not at the home again to know exactly what is missing,” said Jaco. “When the attackers fled, they wiggled themselves loose and drove in their other vehicle to neighbors to call for help.” The couple’s truck was later found near Eendracht.

Wimpie was taken to the Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt near Secunda, where he underwent an operation. He was still in the operating room when Maroela Media called. “The sister said that there was shrapnel in his arm. So he was assaulted and we suspect that he was also shot” Jaco said. He said Wimpie got very confused when they talked fast. “I suspect he has a concussion. He could not remember all the events that happened. “Sunette is traumatized but okay “.

Jaco himself survived a farm attack in March 2008. He was attacked in the early hours by three men in his house on his maize farm near Delmas. He was in his bed about 01:30 when they beat him with a machete on the head and face. He was shot in the left chest when he fought back against his attackers. The bullet missed his heart narrowly. His family was with him in the house but was unharmed.

The attackers fled without stealing anything. “So far no one has been arrested. I’m still waiting for the police to take my statement“, he said.

” I am going to take this further. It is time that something concrete is done about farm attacks; only talking helps nothing, “he said determined.
