Traffic officer injured in hit-and-run crash on the Golden Highway

On Sunday morning 23 October 2022, whilst conducting a stop and search at Golden Highway and Oakmere in Orange Farm Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Officer Aubrey Mufundhisi Muhuvuza was hit by a silver grey Mitsubishi Colt bakkie.

The driver of the bakkie failed to stop and drove away after crashing into the officer.

Officers on the scene gave chase after the bakkie. Whilst searching, the bakkie was found abandoned along Mbatha Street in Orange Farm Extention 1 and the driver was not found.

Paramedics were immediately called to the accident scene and upon their arrival, they informed the other officers that officer Muhuvuza had just encountered a life-threatening situation.

Officer Muhuvuza had to be airlifted to Milpark hospital. He is said to be in stable condition with a left leg fracture and was taken to the medical ward for observation.

The Mitsubishi Colt bakkie was seized and a case of reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop at an accident…
