VRMED, ER24, and LifeEMS were on-scene for reports of a pedestrian that was struck by a car on the N1 north next to the Engen 1 stop offramp in Bloemfontein.
On arrival, crews found that the pedestrian had already succumbed to fatal injuries and was declared by VRMED medics.
The scene was then handed over to Bainsvlei SAPS. Shortly after departing from the scene, VRMED was dispatched to the same scene for a secondary collision where a bakkie collided head-on with the SAPS vehicle.
On arrival, VRMED medics found one SAPS member with minor injuries, and a second patient lying next to the SAPS vehicle with serious injuries after being flung from the vehicle.
The driver of the bakkie was assessed and treated by other services and also taken to the hospital.
The N1 was closed for traffic while an investigation was conducted by SAPS.
