A man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol crashed his vehicle in a ditch on Neptune Drive in Riet River – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at approximately 09:39.
On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a blue Toyota RXI lying on its side in an excavation site.
The heavily intoxicated driver was freed from the wreckage by the public prior to the arrival of First Responders.
It was alleged that the vehicle ran over a pedestrian in the vicinity of Trenance Park – KZN and was fleeing the scene when the driver crashed.
Reaction Officers searched for the injured pedestrian without success.
The Verulam SAPS are in attendance and investigating further.
