A 16-year-old male was rescued from a flat on fire in Oaklands – KZN earlier this morning (Tuesday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at 02:46. One caller informed the Controller On Duty that an individual was trapped in a bedroom in the burning flat.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival proceeded to the third floor. The public were attempting to douse the flames with a fire hose. They informed RUSA Members that one person managed to flee but the teenager was still trapped in his bedroom. Officers entered the residence and broke the bedroom door before removing the male. He suffered smoke inhalation and sustained minor burns to his body. He was transported to hospital privately.
Circumstances leading up to the fire were not established.
