Suspect nabbed in possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Zola Soweto

A 48-year-old male was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Zola, Soweto.

On Thursday, 27 July 2023, whilst on patrol at Mbhele Street in Zola, officers spotted a suspicious grey Toyota Etios and decided to stop it for a routine stop and search.

The vehicle was stopped and it was searched by the officers. Whilst searching the vehicle the officers noticed that the vehicle did not use a key to start, instead the driver was using wires to start the vehicle.

The driver was asked about the damaged ignition and he failed to account why it was damaged.

The vehicle was inspected and the officers noticed that it had fake police VIN numbers. A further inspection was done using Datadot and it was established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Sophiatown in November 2022.
