Six people were confirmed dead at the scene of a motor vehicle accident, where a bakkie and a truck collided head-on.The accident happened on the morning of 26 December 2022, on a stretch of road commonly known as
Manyathela curve between Sasol Garage and the Baobab Toll Plaza on the N1.29 North in Vhembe District.
The six who died include a thirty five year-old driver, four passengers aged between eight and fifteen, and an infant. Law enforcement officers at the scene cite speeding as a possible cause of the crash.
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani sends condolences to the families of the deceased.
"We are saddened by these fatalities and send our deepest condolences to the families that are affected in this tragic incident. We continue to plead with all motorists to obey the rules of the road, for everyone to arrive at their respective destinations alive and sound, " said MEC Radzilani.
