Pretoria: Driver left critically injured after been impaled by safety barrier

Gauteng: At 02H37 Monday morning, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the N14 Ben Schoeman Highway in Zwartkops Centurion.

Reports indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control, crashing into the safety barrier.

When medics arrived on scene they found that the Armco barrier had torn through the vehicle, ripping into the driver.

The patient, a 39-year-old male was found to have sustained critical injuries and was treated on scene by a Netcare 911 emergency care practitioner.

The Tshwane fire and rescue services, battled for almost an hour to delicately remove the twisted metal around the man who was also heavily entrapped.

Once freed and stabilised, the man was rushed through to hospital for further care.
