Just after midday on Wednesday Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on the northbound carriageway of the N3 near the van Buuren offramp in Germiston.
On arrival on the scene, multiple vehicles were found to have collided, among them a heavy articulated truck.
An on-scene triage area was established and additional resources were dispatched by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre.
Three people were found to have sustained critical injuries and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize them before they were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further care.
The driver of a light motor vehicle was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.
The roadway remained closed to allow emergency services to clear the scene.
The cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation….
