At approximately 11h00 Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Monmouth Road in Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti.
On arrival on scene a light motor vehicle was found to have crashed through a residential boundary wall, overturning and landing in a swimming pool.
Paramedics found the occupant still entrapped in the wreckage and a call was made by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre for the specialist assistance of the South African Police Services Search and Rescue Unit.
Once freed, further assessment revealed the man to show no signs of life and he was declared dead on the scene.
The cause of the collision and the events preceeding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.
