The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka decries the death of twelve (12) people in two major crashes over the long weekend.

The first accident happened on the N3 at the Bergville intersection involving a minibus taxi and a truck, instantly killing seven people. Other occupants sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Preliminary reports suggest that a minibus driver lost control and veered towards the direction of a truck.

In a separate accident on the N2 by Galaria Mall, a Toyota Fortuna collided with an Opel Corsa, leaving five people dead.

A team of forensic investigators is currently working on both accidents. The investigation will also look of the driver behaviour, roadworthiness of the vehicles, vehicle licences, drivers’ licences.
