On Tuesday 22 August 2023 at 11:30, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Task Team arrested four (4) male suspects facing multiple charges.
While Officers were patrolling on R25 road, members saw a suspicious white VW polo, fitted with blue lights on the dashboard, with four male occupants wearing masks.
The members made a u-turn, stopped the suspicious vehicle and the occupants. The occupants produced their appointment cards as SAPS members. Upon searching the motor vehicle they discovered,1 police bulletproof, R5 riffle, 3x 9mm pistols with ammunition which was not state issue).
Two of the four suspects are members of the SAPS, all residing in Mamelodi, between the ages of 31 and 36 years. The suspects were taken to Welbekend Police Station, facing charges of Impersonating a police official, fraud and possession of illegal ammunition.
Further charges may be added upon investigation.
