Fisherman drowns in the Tugela River

IPSS Search and Rescue division together with SAPS K9 Search and Rescue and KDM Lifeguards are currently conducting a search in the Tugela River for a fisherman who drowned yesterday.

According to reports from witnesses a 27-year-old man was fishing along the river bank and got into difficulty whilst taking a swim to cool off. Despite efforts made by a witness, he was unable to save the man. The incident occurred at approximately 15h30 yesterday afternoon but was only officially reported around 21h00 last night.

Due to safety concerns, the search was only able to begin this morning.

We urge everyone to report incidents of drowning as soon as they occur to prevent delays in Search and Rescue efforts.
