Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the N2 near Umzumbe for reports of a collision.
When emergency services arrived they found that 2 vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision.
Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found 2 patients had sustained critical injuries and were trapped in a vehicle. A further 2 patients had sustained serious injuries.
Together with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue and Mi7 rescue, the patients were stabilized on the scene before being extricated from the vehicle using specialized rescue equipment.
One of the patients that had sustained critical injuries deteriorated on scene and required Advanced Life Support interventions to resuscitate the patient, sadly tho the patient succumbed to their injuries.
The second patient who had sustained critical injuries was airlifted to a specialist facility from scene.
The patients who had sustained serious injuries were stabilized and transported to hospital for further treatment.
