Collision on N7 Philadelphia leaves one person with fatal injuries

A man was killed and another sustained moderate injuries when a taxi and a truck collided on the N7 in Philadelphia, Cape Town this evening.

At approximately 6.30pm, emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the taxi still partially wedged underneath the truck. Upon assessment, they found that the driver was trapped entirely under the truck. Sadly, he showed no signs of life and was declared dead at the scene. A passenger, believed to have been in the front of the taxi, was found on the scene. He explained that he climbed out of the wreckage shortly after the collision. He was treated for his injuries, which included a fracture of his arm. He was treated on scene and later transported to New Somerset Hospital for further treatment.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation. 

Metro Fire and Rescue, SAPS, Community Medics and Life Healthcare Emergency Services also attended the scene.
