A male e-hailing passenger lost his life in a tragic crash on the N12 East, shortly after the N12/R24 split, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services, the accident occurred at approximately 02:50 when a sedan carrying an Uber driver and passenger collided with the rear of an eight-ton truck travelling in the same direction.
Emergency crews from the Bedfordview Fire Station responded to the scene following reports of a serious motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they found the sedan extensively damaged.
The passenger sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by Gauteng Ambulance Service paramedics.
The driver of the sedan survived the crash but sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
