This video shows Dr Corne Mulder of the FF Plus in parliament pointing out that the current fuel price is an acute crisis. He looks at the exchange rate that is used as an excuse and the tax aspect of this ridiculous fuel price. He points out the billions that have been stolen by the ANC government and their corruption that has caused the problem. The extremely high fuel price in South Africa is the result of an incompetent ANC government. The fact that fuel prices will increase by basically more than one rand per litre at midnight on 3 October, is due to the excessive taxes that the government adds on fuel to fill the national fiscus to make up for the financial mismanagement and corruption of the state.

In South Africa’s neighbouring state of Botswana, the same fuel is significantly cheaper because Botswana does not have as much taxes. The South African government has a financial crisis and the motorist now must pay for this. To hide behind a high oil price and a weak rand is not an excuse for the high fuel price and is used as a smokescreen to disguise government’s incompetence.

What the government must do is to reduce its taxes so that motorists can be treated fairly, and consumers can have more money to spend. The FF Plus proposes the following steps:

1. Do away with the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
2. Make third party insurance compulsory.
3. Reduce fuel tax (currently 38%).
4. Use fuel taxes only on the maintenance and expansion of roads.
