Two suspects arrested at Ngqeleni vehicle chop shop

Police intelligence-driven information led to the arrest of two-vehicle thieves aged 32 and 34 while they were busy stripping parts off suspected stolen vehicles near Lwandile forest in Ngqeleni on 21 April 2021.

The Tactical Response Team (TRT) deployed at Bityi 2 were dispatched to the area to conduct an integrated intelligence operation with Mthatha Crime Intelligence (CI) and Vehicle Theft Unit (VCIU). They pounced on criminals while they were stripping two vehicles reported stolen from Maclear and Butterworth.

Upon arrival of police, several males were seen and identified, some fled but two of them were not lucky as they were arrested and questioned on the homestead used as a chop shop for stolen vehicles.

On further search of the premises, several vehicle body parts were recovered, identified and processed on the scene by VCIU. Most proved to be of vehicles that were reported as stolen.
