Two suspects apprehended for illegal possession of explosives

Two suspects aged 33 and 40 are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate's Court on Monday 21 November 2022 after they were arrested for illegal possession of explosives at the Beitbridge border post on Friday 18 November.

The suspects were arrested at about 00:50 as they crossed into South Africa from Zimbabwe. This was after their truck with two trailers was stopped and upon searching it, Police together with SARS Custom Officials discovered 16 x 25 kg bags containing commercial explosives hidden inside the two trailers.

Members of the Musina Explosives Unit attended the scene and 17 reels of detonating fuse, 1250 units of connector capped fuse, and 2569 units of blasting cartridges explosives superpower 90 made in Zambia were confiscated. The male driver and a female passenger were arrested on the spot and the truck was also confiscated.
