Two hospitalised following a head-on collision on the R102 in Verulam

Two people were hospitalised following a head-on collision on the R102 at the Verulam intersection – KZN.

Passing motorists contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) requesting assistance at the scene. Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered a white VW Polo and a red Suzuki Swift that were extensively damaged.

The vehicles were blocking part of the northbound lane. The Suzuki Swift struck a robot following the initial impact. The Jaws Of Life was used to free one of the passengers from the Suzuki Swift who was trapped in the vehicle.

Two passengers from the Suzuki Swift sustained moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The occupants of the VW Polo suffered minor injuries.
Circumstances leading up to the collision were not immediately established.
