Twelve light motor vehicles, a truck and a bus collide on the N1, Garsfontein Pretoria

At approximately 19h00 on Saturday night, Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies, responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on the N1 near Garsfontein in the Pretoria area.

Reports from the scene are that twelve light motor vehicles, a truck and a bus collided, leaving as many as seventy people injured.

Incident command officers established an on scene triage area and further investigation revealed one patient to be in a critical condition.

Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilize him before he was airlifted through to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.

The remaining patients were treated on scene and transported by ambulances to various nearby hospitals for further medical care.

Traffic in the area was severely affected as the roadway was closed to allow emergency personnel space to work.

The cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services…
