Tshwane Metro Police Department notes with regret the arrest of 2 members for bribery

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is aware of the arrest of two of its members on Monday, 20 April 2020.

The two members, together with a SAPS Warrant Officer, were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a taxi owner whose taxi operator breached the lockdown rules in Bronkhorstspruit. The incident happened a few weeks ago but the TMPD members were only arrested yesterday at their work station.

They were all detained overnight at a local Police station and were due to appear in court today, 21 April 2020. Their case was however not heard and was provisionally withdrawn for further investigations.

The latest apprehension comes two weeks after TMPD officers arrested three of their own in the same area, which raises a great concern for the TMPD.

The TMPD condemns the alleged behaviour of its members and will not tolerate corruption by any of their officers. An internal investigation has been opened and the TMPD will decisively deal with members who are implicated…
