Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the R102 at the Ottawa intersection after receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision a short while ago.
Upon arrival a Mercedes Benz tip truck was found to have collided into a taxi. Four occupants of the Toyota Quantum including the driver were injured. They were treated on scene by medics before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.
According to witnesses the truck was travelling in the direction of Verulam when the driver ignored a red robot and collided into the taxi which was crossing the intersection. The driver of the truck stopped several metres away from the point of impact. He abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Police are investigating further.
