Taxi’s brakes fail, leaving 11 injured in Pietermaritzburg

The driver of a taxi, whose brakes had failed as they descended Sweetwaters road outside Pietermaritzburg today, apparently chose to use a small tree on the median strip to bring the vehicle to a stop and avoid travelling further down the road.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find 11 passengers in need of attention. Assessments revealed their injuries to be thankfully minor and they were all transported to nearby Northdale Hospital for further treatment by ER24 and other services who were on the scene.

SAPS and Fire & Rescue were also on the scene for further investigation.
