Taxi boss shot on Old Main Road at the steel bridge in Verulam

A 27-year-old taxi boss has been shot following a drive-by shooting on Old Main Road at the steel bridge in Verulam a short while ago.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene several motorists reporting shots being fired during peak traffic at the single lane bridge. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found the victim bleeding from a single gunshot wound to his body.

The victim claimed that while stationary at the bridge a silver VW Polo 6 drove up next to him and the occupants opened fire on his BMW. The victim drew his 9mm Beretta pistol (picture 4) and returned fire. The suspects then sped off in the direction of Cottonlands. The victim's vehicle was shot multiple times. The injured businessman was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital.

The motive for the shooting is believed to be taxi related.
