Road safety the focus at a Rest Stop on the  R546 and N17 Toll Road in Kinross

As part of ensuring safety this Easter weekend on Mpumalanga roads, the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, in collaboration with Sasol today (27 March 2024) led a joint Rest Stop on the R546 and N17 Toll Road in Kinross.

The Rest Stop is one of many operations that are currently taking place in the province to assist curb road crashes and fatalities during this busy period.

South African Police Service(SAPS) and traffic law enforcement officers from Govan Mbeki Local Municipality were also part of the Rest Stop.

During the Rest Stop,over 600 drivers and 1300 passengers were educated about road safety.

Traffic law enforcement officers did not turn a blind eye on those who broke the law, as 39 summonses were issued for different traffic violations. Over and above this, three notices to discontinue were issued to drivers whose vehicles were not road worthy.

Meanwhile,the SAPS members stopped over 200 vehicles and searched over 300 drivers and passengers.
