Reportedly drunk Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested in Verulam, KZN

A 23-year-old drunk driver was arrested by Reaction Officers after he fled the scene of an accident where 3 people were seriously injured on Vincent Dickinson Road in Canelands a short while ago.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after receiving multiple calls from the public requesting assistance for three pedestrians who were run over by a Toyota Quantum. Upon arrival it was established that the vehicle had fled the scene without stopping.

Two woman were critically injured while a third pedestrian suffered moderate injuries. They were stabilised on scene by medics from two private ambulance services before being transported to hospital.

While on scene Reaction Officers received information that the driver of the taxi lived in the Hazelmere area. Acting on the information Officers proceeded to the area and recovered the damaged taxi in an informal settlement.

Further enquiries led to the arrest of the driver who was found inside his home. He was heavily under the influence of alcohol. The keys belonging to the taxi was found in his possession.

He was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further arrest.
