Police seized abalone worth R2.8 million

An intelligence driven operation between Crime Intelligence and Table View police landed three foreign nationals between the ages of 40 and 60 behind bars when they were arrested for the possession of abalone worth R2,8 million.

The members gathered information about a premises in Eidenburgh, West Beach, Table View where abalone are stored. The members operationalised the information received and pounced on the premises where they ensued with a search of the facility. During the search the members discovered a drying facility with equipment and 7855 units of dried abalone. A Landrover used as a mode to transport the abalone, was also confiscated.

The suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates court on the mentioned charges, once charged.

In an unrelated matter members of the Commercial Crime Unit arrested four suspects between the ages of 28 and 42 on the charges of fraud and theft. The arrest followed after the suspects defrauded the complainant of a undisclosed amount…
