Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by a taxi in Verulam

A 24-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was mowed down by a taxi on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD.

A witness arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters at approximately 08:44 and reported the accident. Reaction Officers and Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the seriously injured woman lying in the center of the road. Medics stabilized her on the scene before transporting her to the hospital.

According to witnesses, the Toyota Quantum taxi was traveling up Ireland Street. The driver allegedly failed to stop at a red robot and plowed into the pedestrian. The driver of the minibus was not injured.

Police are on scene and investigating further.
