One person lost life and thirteen taken to hospital in two different accidents in Mafikeng and Lichtenburg on Friday afternoon. At around 15:45 the driver with five passengers lost control of a vehicle at Riviera Park bridge on R49 linking Mafikeng and Zeerust. One passenger was declared deceased at the scene of the accident whilst four others were taken to the Provincial hospital.
In another unrelated accident on R503 linking Mafikeng and Lichtenburg at 18:50, a stationery bus on a yellow lane was hit from behind by another vehicle. The one that hit the bus was itself hit on right side by another vehicle coming from behind. A total of nine passengers were injured in all three vehicles and taken to the hospital, one with serious and the eight with slight injuries.
