VRMED together with FSEMS College, Mangaung Fire and Rescue as well as various other emergency services responded early Tuesday morning to reports of a bus collision on the N1 north approximately 20km from Bloemfontein.
Upon arrival shortly after 01:20 crews found a bus had overturned after colliding with a stationary truck. FSEMS College established a scene command and began triaging the occupants. It was reported that 32 of the 59 occupants sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Sadly one of the passengers sustained fatal injuries after being trapped under the bus. The drivers from both vehicles sustained minor injuries. Patients were transported to various hospitals in and around Bloemfontein. Mangaung fire and rescue together with towing had to use specialized equipment to extricate the deceased from under the bus.
The exact cause of the collision is under police investigation.
