Nine injured after multi-vehicle collision on the corners of Longmarket and Chapel street Pietermaritzburg

Nine people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate after a bus, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle collided on the corners of Longmarket and Chapel street in Pietermaritzburg CBD this afternoon.

An off-duty ER24 paramedic was traveling by vehicle when he came across the collision at approximately 17H45. Upon further assessment, he found a total of nine patients who sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries. The eight patients from the bakkie sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, the bus was not transporting any passengers.

ER24, as well as another medical service on the scene, transported the patients to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and Northdale hospital for further medical care.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known to our paramedics but police were on the scene for further investigations.
