Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit was dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision in Moreletta Park.
On arrival, they found two vehicles have collided head-on and the driver and passenger of the one vehicle were critically injured and severely entrapped in the vehicle, and two other patients with moderate to serious injuries were on the scene.
A team worked alongside multiple ambulance and rescue services to stabilize the patients before using specialized hydrolics "Jaws of life" to extricate the entrapped patients. Due to the severity of the one patient's injuries, the decision was made to airlift them to a specialist Trauma hospital in Johannesburg.
SAPS was on the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
