Within the past 20 minutes, three separate vehicle accidents have been reported within an approximately 10 km radius of Bloemfontein.
The incidents are believed to be directly related to hail accumulation on the roadway, resulting in extremely slippery conditions and vehicles losing traction and sliding.
Road surfaces may appear wet but could be covered with hail, significantly reducing grip and increasing stopping distances.
Drivers are advised to:
* Reduce speed immediately
* Increase following distances
* Avoid sudden braking or steering inputs
* Switch on headlights for improved visibility
* Remain alert for emergency services and accident scenes
The frequency of collisions in such a short period highlights the seriousness of the hazard. All road users are urged to take extra precautions until conditions improve.
