KZN Department of Transport meets RTMC and SABS as part of implementing new provincial license number plates

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has begun embarking on a consultation process with critical stakeholders as part of its implementation process of a new provincial license numbering system.

A delegation from the Department of Transport led by MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka and the Head of Department Siboniso Mbhele today, 06 September 2022 met with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the South African Standards of Bureau of Standards (SABS) to request assistance in expediting the implementation process through system enhancements and changes on NaTis.

The delegation from RTMC was led by CEO Advocate Makhosini Msibi and the SABS delegation was led by Divisional Head: Certification Services Katima Temba.

The urgent need to introduce a new provincial license number plate is informed by the fact that some of the numbers are outdated in terms of the registering authority boundaries.
