Kidnap Victim Released During Helicopter Search: Oakford – KZN

16-Year-old Thembelani Hlope was released by his kidnappers after they spotted the RUSA Helicopter hovering and searching the area a few kilometres from where he was being held against his will.

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was flagged down by a group of residents in Hazelmere – KZN requesting assistance for the teenager. According to his mother, the boy was walking with friends to a soccer field in Oakford – KZN when he was snatched by three men in a white Toyota Hilux.

The Reaction Officer requested backup and aerial support to assist. The RUSA Robinson R44 Helicopter was conducting a search for a hijacked truck in Pinetown – KZN when the Pilot was re-routed at 17:20 just before sunset (pictured) in an attempt to rescue the boy. The aircraft conducted a low level flight over Oakford, Hazelmere and Ndwedwe – KZN.
