Government delegation to pay their last respects to the 20 victims of the Phongolo road crash at a mass funeral.

The Minister of Police General Bheki Cele and Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula will tomorrow (Saturday, 24 September 2022) lead a government delegation that will pay their last respects to the 20 victims of the Phongolo road crash at a mass funeral.

The ministers together with the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule, will join mourners, families of the victims and the community of oPhongolo under the Zululand District.

The provincial government will be represented by the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka and the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, who is also the District Service Delivery Champion of Zululand.

The interfaith leadership, traditional leadership, teacher unions, teachers and learners from the affected schools, will be amongst those who will be accompanying the mourners.

The mass funeral is for 14 victims, as the remaining 6 will be burying their family members separately.
