Exhausted international tourists flown from famous Table Mountain trail

Two Chinese visitors, aged 50 and 36, were flown from the India Venster hiking trail late on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, the pair had caught the Hop on hop off bus tour of Cape Town to Table Mountain, before starting up the popular trail from the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Lower Cable Station on Sunday morning.

The two had made it to the staples about two-thirds of the way up the steep trail and were unable to move any further.

A passing hiker noticed the stranded pair shortly before 17h00 and immediately called the emergency number – 021 937 0300.

A small team on board the Western Cape Department of Health & Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter was flown to the scene and hoisted down to a point close the visitors.

The stuck duo were helped into rescue harnesses, before being hoisted up into the helicopter and flown to a nearby landing zone.

The incident was concluded shortly before 18h15….
