Be prepared as the first heatwave of summer hits

Most parts of South Africa experienced high temperatures this week as the first heatwave of summer hit. Gauteng Weather said on social media that the temperature was expected to surge to multi-year highs in the region on Tuesday. Predicted temperatures for the rest of the week are lower but remain in the low 30°C range. For the rest of summer, be cautious of heat stress or heatstroke, which poses a risk to both your physical well-being and your ability to drive safely, when temperatures soar.

The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, advises reducing the amount of time spent in the car. “Life, however, does carry on despite the heatwave so avoiding the car completely is impossible. In these instances, take precautions to ensure you do not suffer from heatstroke or have a crash.”

Avoid travelling during peak times. Try leaving earlier or later to avoid gridlocked traffic.
