Five people have been killed and multiple injured in a horrific accident on Nandi Drive near the Engen Garage this morning just after 6am.
Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find total chaos. Two taxis and a truck had collided before one taxi rolled coming to rest on its wheels. Four people were killed instantly before paramedics arrived and one female who had sustained major injuries passed away a short while later after Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her. Multiple other patients had sustained various injuries and were treated on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required. A medical helicopter was brought to the scene to airlift a critically injured patient from the accident scene to a nearby hospital.
At this stage the exact cause of the collision is unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
