13 Injured In Taxi rollover in Verulam

At approx 15:45 a passing motorist reported that he witnessed a fully loaded white minibus taxi veer off the road and roll down an embankment near the steel bridge on the Old Main Road in Verulam.

Reaction Officers and Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene & upon arrival found members of Verulam SAPS in attendance. Police & RUSA Officers removed 18 passengers through a broken window. Two (2) females suffered serious injuries & eleven (11) others suffered minor injuries. A four-year-old child was amongst the injured. They were transported to various hospitals by Paramedics.

According to the driver, the Toyota Hilux minibus was traveling towards the Cbd when the brakes failed. He then tried to steer clear of oncoming traffic when the steering wheeled locked. He then lost control & rolled down an embankment.

The driver was not injured.
