A local hiker is recovering after a dramatic, life-saving rescue in the Helderberg Nature Reserve on Tuesday evening. What began as reports of screams echoing from the mountain quickly became a critical wilderness rescue operation, requiring the coordinated efforts of Wilderness Search and Rescue's volunteer and partner agency teams.
Following a brief search, assisted by the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS Drone Unit, rescuers located an unconscious hiker near the trail. It appears that the patient had fallen approximately 15–20 metres from a trail above, prompting what would become a critical, life-saving intervention.
