Mi7 teams successfully apprehended a suspect allegedly linked to multiple fraud incidents following a coordinated intelligence-driven operation in the Pietermaritzburg CBD on Monday.
The operation commenced on Sunday after Mi7 Control Room operators received information regarding a fraud case reported by a business owner on Greyling Street.
Reaction Officers were dispatched to the premises to obtain additional information and learned that the suspect allegedly presented staff members with a fraudulent Proof of Payment (POP) document. Believing the payment to be legitimate, employees released approximately R5,000 worth of grocery items to the suspect, who subsequently left the premises. Upon verification, it was discovered that no payment had been received.
Video footage capturing the suspect's vehicle was obtained, and the Reaction Officers were able to secure his contact details.
