Motor Mech competition showcases Eastern Cape's future automotive talent

The Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA), a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (Retail Motor Industry Organisation), officially launched its 2026 Motor Mech season with a highly successful junior competition hosted at Port Rex Technical High School in East London on 6 June.

Held during Youth Month, the competition saw 13 Grade 12 learners from Port Rex Technical High School put their practical skills, technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities to the test in a real-world workshop environment.

For many participants, the competition represented far more than a contest. It offered valuable exposure to the automotive aftermarket sector while building confidence, reinforcing career ambitions and providing valuable insight into the demands of the industry. The results reflected not only technical competence but also the dedication and commitment required to succeed in the automotive sector.
