Tourism KwaZulu-Natal appoints Mpho Mbuli as general manager: Marketing

Tourism KwaZulu-Natal has appointed seasoned marketer Ms Mpho Mbuli to head the Marketing of Destination KZN as of the 1st of November 2021.

Mbuli joins the province’s tourism entity at a very critical time when the KZN tourism sector seeks to recover from the biggest global pandemic to hit the world and which has left the tourism sector devastated. Mbuli will be spearheading the tourism recovery plan for KZN and driving a focused strategy to reposition the KZN brand to global markets as the world begins to open.

Elated to have Mbuli join the entity at this critical moment, Phindile Makwakwa, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Tourism KwaZulu-Natal said “We are excited to welcome Mpho to be at the helm of our Marketing division.  She brings a wealth of destination marketing experience to the entity, and we look forward to gain as the organisation and sector from her expertise.  She has come at the most critical time in the tourism sector as we are trying to rebuild the sector, revive our source markets and reposition KZN as a top tourism destination across the globe”.

Before joining Tourism KZN, Mbuli worked for Durban Tourism as Regional Marketing Manager. This means she comes with extensive experience in destination marketing having been responsible for marketing in the European, African, and domestic markets. This will be of great value as she already comes with great relationships with key tourism players across the globe.

Speaking about her appointment, Mbuli said, “After many years of working in the tourism sector, I am pleased to join the Tourism KZN team. I feel honoured to be given an opportunity to lead my home province to a new tourism era. I look forward to engaging with our tourism stakeholders as we pave a way forward that will redefine and reposition KZN as a world-class tourist destination”.

Mbuli’s appointment comes as the province prepares to welcome thousands of holidaymakers who will descend to KZN for their much needed and deserved summer holiday. Her expertise will be a much-valued asset to the Tourism KZN team.
