XTERRA World Champions, Bradley Weiss (Stellenbosch, South Africa) and Flora Duffy (Bermuda) will kick off their 2018 XTERRA racing season at the Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship at the Elgin-Grabouw Country Club this coming weekend (23 – 25 February 2018).

“The Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw is the biggest XTERRA in the world and by far my favorite race of the year,” admits Weiss.  “Being so close to Stellenbosch, it is basically a home town race, one that I hold very close to my heart.  Being the World Champion has filled me with confidence.  I cannot wait to pull on the rainbow stripes and have a crack at winning back the XTERRA SA Championship title.”

Weiss claimed the Fedhealth XTERRA South African champion title once, this was in 2016.  A double puncture during the MTB discipline in 2017 saw him lose the title to Olympian, Richard Murray.

“Last year Richard Murray and I had an incredible battle in Grabouw.  Sadly a double puncture on the MTB discipline proved costly, but that is after all the nature of our sport. I am very proud of that race despite losing by such a narrow margin.”

“Winning this coming weekend would mean the world to me especially being the first race of the 2018 XTERRA season.   My International XTERRA racing season will include the Asia Pacific Tour as well as a few key races in the European XTERRA Tour before shifting my focus to the XTERRA World Championship in an attempt to defend my title.”

Flora Duffy will be going for her 5th consecutive victory at the Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship on Saturday, 24 February 2018.

“I love the community feel to the Fedhealth XTERRA South African Championship.  No other XTERRA offers such a variety of races throughout the weekend,” says Duffy.  “The event caters for everybody – beginners, serious age groupers and professionals.  At the moment the only two XTERRA races that I participate at are XTERRA Grabouw and XTERRA Worlds.   My plan for 2018 is to defend my ITU World Triathlon Series and XTERRA World Championship titles.   I would also like to podium at Commonwealth Games.”
