FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN welcomes two new charities

Stillwater Sports, the organisers of the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (taking place on Sunday, 14 October 2018) are excited to include LIV Village and iThemba Lethu as event charities in 2018 in addition to the Reach For A Dream Foundation, TREE and Durban & Coast SPCA.

“Charity support continues to be a major focus at all three FNB Run Your City Series events:  FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN, FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN and FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN was launched in 2017 with three charities on board:  Reach For A Dream Foundation, TREE and Durban & Coast SPCA.  We are excited to grow this list in 2018.  Both LIV Village and iThemba Lethu focus their resources on caring for orphaned and/or abandoned children.  We are proud to support the selfless work of these two Durban based initiatives and look forward to welcoming them to the 2018 event experience.”

Based in the community of Cottonlands, just outside of Verulam in Durban (KZN), LIV Village was founded in 2011 with the first children and mothers moving into their houses in August 2012.

According to Carita McCririe, HOD of Marketing and LIV Leadership, the founder of LIV (Tich Smith) had a dream to build a village for orphaned children where they would have a mother who loves them, food to eat, a roof over their heads and where they would receive a proper education.  “LIV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. We place parentless children in an environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual leadership and where all their physical needs are met.  It is a great honour and privilege to be associated with the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN.  We would like to create awareness for the work that LIV is doing in the Durban area and raise funds to “Rescue, Restore, Raise and Release” our children as the future leaders of South Africa.”

Since 2001, iThemba Lethu has been placing vulnerable children (babies and juveniles) into permanent families, while equipping the youth and leaders of tomorrow with life skills and education to help them make wiser lifestyle decisions.

“iThemba Lethu focusses on the transition of vulnerable children back into permanent families through reunification and adoption,” says Karen Brokensha, Marketing and Fundraising Co-ordinator iThemba Lethu.  “We also strive to equip pre-adolescent youth with the necessary life skills to positively influence their risk taking behaviour.  We are avid believers in the power of partnership.  By operating as a collective body, everyone is an ambassador for building hope in our city.  We are proud to be an official charity of the 2018 FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN.  We look forward to meeting new people, while creating awareness for the cause.”
