When entering the Fedhealth IMPI Challenge in Cape Town, IMPI #1 (Saturday, 07 and Sunday, 08 April 2018) and IMPI #4 (Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 November 2018), adventure seekers can choose to support one (or all five) of the event’s charities.

The five charities supported by the Fedhealth IMPI Challenge in Cape Town (IMPI #1 and IMPI #4) include: CANSA, Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Woodside Special Care Centre, Prochorus Community Development and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).

A non-profit organisation, the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) offers a unique integrated service to the public by enabling research, educating the public and providing support to all people affected by cancer.

“The IMPI Challenge is great because it involves everyone, not just the participants,” says Stephan Brink, National Manager CANSA Active.  “It’s a wonderful event to build team spirit.  We believe that a balanced lifestyle is key to lowering your cancer risk.  Almost without exception, each participant is affected by cancer in some way. Through our participation we hope to give back to local communities, by providing information, care and support to cancer Survivors (patients), caregivers and loved ones, who might not have been in a position to receive support otherwise.  The funds raised through our involvement with the IMPI Challenge will go towards CANSA’s service delivery, particularly with regards to our care and support programmes which include counselling, support groups, medical equipment hire, wigs, prostheses, stoma products, and accommodation if patients are living far from treatment centres at our CANSA Care Homes.”

Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa and is the oldest animal welfare organisation in the country. A registered non-profit organisation and Public Benefit Organisation, the society relies on the support of concerned individuals and corporates to continue operating.

“We’ve been involved with the IMPI Challenge since 2016,” says Natasha Johannes, Fundraising Officer Cape of Good Hope SPCA.  “IMPI is fun and ideal for team building and networking.   Through our involvement we are able to create awareness to a wider audience and give people the perfect platform to challenge themselves ‘for the love of animals’.  The funds raised are utilised in our mobile clinics that take our services to the informal settlements and impoverished areas where we offer primary veterinary care and pet care education where it is needed most. Dipping, de-worming and vaccinating are among the vital services that were offered to 16 685 animals during the last year alone. Animals in need of sterilisation and those that are ill or injured are transported to our Animal Hospital for further treatment, and returned to their owners afterwards.”
